How to:
Sending
Pictures by Snail Mail
Snapshots submitted should
be of high quality. 3½ x 5 or 4 x 6 35mm photos work well. We do
not recommend that you send your only copy of your photo. Print
your name on the back of your photos or attach a post-it note to
the back with your name on it so they can be returned with your
order, unharmed.
- Be sure your snapshot is a good
quality photo, well-lit, sharply focused, and subject is well
composed. Most of are tiles are square, so cropping will be
required to fit to size.
- Send your snapshot to us at:
Sending
a Digital Photo
As with snapshots, be sure
your digital photo is well-lit, sharply focused, and well
composed.
- Please send the largest file size
(highest quality) available for your digital photo (preferably a
minimum of 300 DPI). The larger the file, the better the final
result. We may need to crop your photo to fit the tile. 72 DPI
photos do not print well and are not recommended.
- If possible save as a high quality
(.jpg, .jpeg) file but other formats (.psd, .tif, etc.) can be
processed.
- Attach file to your email and send
with order. Send to
.
Digitizing
Your Photo
- Rather than sending your snapshot,
digitize your photo and send it via email along with your order
form.
- Scan your snapshot at least 300dpi
and set the size 6.5x6.5 (depending on the size of the item). If
item is larger than 6.5 x 6.5, the image size will need to be
larger. DO NOT USE YOUR PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE TO ENLARGE
PRINT. This will cause pixelation and make the image appear
blurry. Use the scanner's software at the time of scan.
- Send the scan to good quality
software (i.e. Adobe, Corel etc.) and save as high quality (.jpg,
.jpeg) file.
- Attach scan to your email and send
with order. Send to
.
Tips
- Photos with a glossy finish
reproduce best.
- DO SCAN IMAGES AT A MINIMUM OF 300
DPI – DPI, or dots per inch — means the difference between
sharp, crisp images and a cloudy, muddy finish. Your scanning
program should default to 300 DPI and “Color Photo” as the
default settings. For smaller photos, scan at 600 dpi to
increase the resolution of the image and help minimize the
effect of pixelation in the final enlarged image.
- DO USE LARGE PHOTOGRAPHS - The
size of the original image makes a difference when enlarging
images to fit on the products. In general, the larger the
original photo size, the better the final product will be. We
say “in general”, because some of the products are actually
fairly small. The 4” x 4” tile is small enough to
accommodate even wallet photos. Larger products, such as the
8X10 plaque require the process to blow up the small photo to
fill the printable area. This can often distort the scanned
image giving the product image a broken, or pixelated,
appearance.
- DON’T COPY A PHOTOGRAPH FROM A
WEB SITE FOR REPRODUCTION – Most photographs used on Web sites
are 72 DPI, a photo resolution that will reproduce very poorly.
Always make sure you’re working with a photograph that is at
least 300 DPI. Not only will they reproduce poorly, but
many images on websites are copyrighted and it is illegal to
reproduce without permission from the owner of the image.
IMPORTANT
DON’T USE COPYRIGHTED PHOTOGRAPHS
WITHOUT PERMISSION – For example, if you’ve had a family
photograph taken by a professional photographer, you’ll need to
ask the photographer for permission before reproducing the photo. It
is illegal to reproduce (i.e., scan and print) without permission,
any photograph or image that is copyrighted or has the "©"
Copyright symbol on it. Many professional photographers place this
symbol on their proofs and final photo prints. We will not print any
image that has this symbol on it unless you have a signed release
form from the photographer.
DON’T SEND INAPPROPRIATE OR
PORNOGRAPHIC PHOTOS TO BE REPRODUCED – Best Friends Grooming reserves
the right to refuse to reproduce any image.
